The Greater Manchester Autism Consortium is a point of contact for anyone in Greater Manchester needing information about autism and related issues. We are managed by the UK's leading charity for Autistic people and their families The National Autistic Society.
Since 1993 we have been providing information and advice to autistic people and their families, delivering training and developing resources. Since 2019, we have had a Greater Manchester Autism Strategy in place. You can read the updated 2022 Strategy. The strategy is also available in Easy Read.
GM Autism
In order to tackle the significant challenges across GM in addressing the needs of Children and young people (CYP) with neurodevelopmental (ND) symptoms, including extremely long waiting lists, a new needs-led CYP ND model of care for Autism and ADHD has been developed, with the intention to implement it across all 10 GM localities. This proposed model is aligned with national best practice and incorporates insights from successful pilots and initiatives, ensuring that it meets the holistic needs of CYP and their families/carers.
As part of delivering this transformation, LDA CAMHS at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) have been commissioned to support the system with implementing the new models of care and improving provision for children and young people with Autism and ADHD.
This support will be delivered under the umbrella name of ‘GM Autism’ however the work areas supported relate to neurodiversity as a whole and including ADHD. The team will be working on
- Taking a strategic role in developing and assessing new ways of working in GM
- Developing co-produced training
- Neuro-profiling
- Development and maintenance of this regional website, in partnership with GMAC
