Some Autistic people have preferences with eating or an unusual diet by choice. This could be expressed in many different ways such as not experiencing or recognising hunger, experiencing sensory Overload connected to eating and drinking which means the person may struggle with certain textures and smells or in some cases having a severely restricted diet known as Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Eating differences are not uncommon and for some people they do not pose any significant concerns but for others it maybe useful to get some professional help.
