Some Autistic people may also have a Learning disability sometimes called an Intellectual Disability, which can affect aspects of their life. Autistic people can have different kinds of learning disabilities, which can affect all aspects of their life, from studying in school to learning how to wash themselves or make a meal. Some people will be able to live fairly independently - although they may need a degree of support to achieve this - while others may require lifelong, specialist support. Some autistic people do not have accompanying global learning disabilities, but may still have specific learning difficulties, such as Dyslexia. There is a Greater Manchester Learning Disability strategy which would cover autistic people who also have a learning disability.
There is a coproduction group for people with learning disabilities within Greater Manchester called Confirm and Challenge run by the North West Training and Development/ Pathways Associates. For more information please contact info@pathwaysassociates.co.uk
